Spice Up Your Space! Fall Decorating Tips for Your Rental

September 19, 2019 / by Hignell Rentals Team

fall decorFall is the season of spice. It's the time when all the leaves change into beautiful colors before they fall off the trees and everyone remembers that they have many things to be thankful for. It's also the time for pumpkin patches, corn mazes, hay rides, and haunted houses. Speaking of houses, what are you going to decorate your home with?

The best part about fall is surely the decorations, so we thought we would give you some ideas on how to decorate your rental on a low-cost budget.

The good news? You can start decorating right after Labor Day and keep your decorations out until after Thanksgiving. That's almost 3 full months of having a festive happy home. Ready, set, go!

1. Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

The changing of the leaves may be the first thing you think of when it comes to fall, but pumpkins quickly follow! Try including them in your decorations as a table centerpiece, front porch decor, or festive flower holder. There are so many ways you can decorate a pumpkin: good old fashion carving, painting them different colors, writing on them, or even gluing fabric to them. You could even purchase wood slices and make a fall sign that looks like a pumpkin!

2. DIY Fall Scented Candles

Bath and Body Works Fall Collection has a bountiful medley of spiced candles and sweet scents to try out this harvest season. If you're looking for a more cost effective way to charm house guests, you can either set out freshly bought cinnamon sticks or your favorite flavor of coffee beans. To dress these options up a bit, try tying cinnamon sticks around a small vanilla candle, or pour the coffee beans around a candle as a centerpiece.

3. Fall Mason Jars

Mason jars are an excellent decor staple, as they are cheap to purchase in bulk and are easy to decorate. There are an insane amount of ideas out there when it comes to fall mason jar decorating. The ideas range from painting them, covering them with burlap, filling them with different things, to using them as kitchenware, etc. Since there are too many to choose from we decided we’d just give you 30 Ideas from Country Living to see what fits your fancy.

P.S. We love the idea of filling them with colorful dried peas, corn, and kidney beans (check out the bulk aisle at your local grocery store!).

4. Lanterns!

Lanterns can run on the expensive side, so our advice is to aim for plastic ones. Fill them up with mini pumpkins, acorns, mini squash, or anything else that symbolizes fall. You can even include a candle! Lanterns are a great way to bring a warm cozy vibe to your rental.

5. Front Door Decor

Picture yourself coming home from a long day of work to be greeted by a festive harvest wreath on your front door. Nothing is more welcoming than the charming colors of fall, and the promise of walking into your very own cozy space. Whether you go for a quirky sign or a fabulous wreath, front door decor is a great idea.

6. A Little Goes a Long Way

The awesome part about fall decor, is that a little goes a long way. If you don’t feel like overspending, becoming the next Martha Stewart, or filling your rental with pumpkin spice, try setting a few pumpkins on your steps or setting out cozy blankets and pillows from the closet.

Try picking some tall dried grass and placing it in a glass vase to bring subtle hues of yellow to your living room. There are plenty of treasures to be found in your backyard, or at the park, that are perfect for seasonal decorations and are absolutely free. When the leaves fall, choose some with your favorite colors and build a centerpiece for your dining table.

Fall in Love with Your Rental

Bring the charming days of fall right to your front door with welcoming decor. You can keep it simple or go all out, the choice is up to you. We hope you fall in love with your rental all over again during this bountiful season of spice.

Caution: Remember to blow out your festive fall candles at night or when you leave your rental. Be careful about open flames and decorations, and be sure to check your smoke detectors.

When you begin to decorate your rental, are you seeing all the dust and grime that needs to be cleaned? Once you've taken all the regular decorations down to be replaced with fall decorations make sure you spend some time cleaning!
