One of the great things about living in an apartment is that you always have people around you to look out for you. Although if you’re a cynic, you may be thinking that always having people around only causes annoyances and issues. In either case, you should get to know your neighbors. That way they are there when you need them, or if they’re annoying you, you’ve already broken the ice and can tell them to knock it off!
Picture this: The moving truck just left. Boxes are piled in the center of every room. You pick one to sit on, look around smiling, and think: “Finally here in my first apartment.” Then your smile slowly fades as you think, “…Now what?”
Now that you’re moved in it’s time to start unpacking. As you put things away, make a list of all the things you don't have but know you'll need. We’ll help you by going through the main rooms of your apartment.
While it may seem self explanatory of what one should do when a fire starts, you can never say it enough.
It's happening. You've done everything you can to prevent a fire in your apartment, but alas there is a fire in your kitchen and the smoke detectors are going off and there is no way you can tend to the fire.
Remember to stay calm and to take action immediately. In moments of panic simple steps can escape your mind, but if you repeat them aloud and commit them to memory beforehand you'll be more likely to remember them if/when the time comes.
Think of searching for your first apartment as a treasure hunt. You have a goal in mind – you want a treasured place to call home, but you don’t quite know how you’re going to get there yet. There are clues you have to pick up on the way. The following tips will help give you clues to the apartment in Chico, Redding, or surrounding areas that is just right for you.
Only consider places you can afford
If you allow yourself to look at apartments in Chico or Redding that are out of your price range, then you’ll be tempted to compromise.
Apartment carpets get abused. Life is already rough on your carpets, but in Hignell Rental properties where multiple renters have moved in and out, your carpet may be looking pretty sad. So what do you do to get the carpet looking nice and keep it that way?
When you first move into a new apartment make sure that the carpets have been professionally cleaned. This is pretty standard practice with apartment turnover, but you should always ask. Professional steam cleaning will get your carpet clean deep down where dust and allergens can hide.
Summer and hot weather is here! Because you are living in Chico, you have different options to help you stay cool. But when there is water present, there is also the need to go over a few tips to help keep everybody safe. So before you put on your bathing suit and grab your towel, check out these tips on pool, river and creek safety!
Many of our Chico apartments have pools and Jacuzzis. Which is great in the Chico heat that inevitably reaches temperatures in the three digits. But with these great amenities come great responsibility. We want all of our residents (and their guests) to be safe while they are cooling down and enjoying our beautiful pools. Here are a few of our pool rules to help keep you safe:
Well you’ve done it. You found a new place to live and the moving truck has arrived. It’s now time to unpack all your stuff.
We understand that unpacking can feel like a very overwhelming process when you’re moving into an apartment. You’re probably already exhausted from the process of packing everything up and closing up the loose ends at your former residence!
It's very tempting to just get all the boxes in and unpacked without a method to your madness because you're longing to just feel settled again. It's definitely a way to go, but it can be more stressful when you have no idea where a certain box is or what room it should go in. Instead, we can help you make an unpacking plan that is simple and easy.
When it comes to renting with roommates it’s always good to establish boundaries before you officially move in together.
Whether you know your new roommate(s) or they’re random roommate(s), having an agreement written up and signed will be a life saver. If you find yourself thinking, “oh we don’t need one, it’ll be fine!” ignore yourself and create one anyways. A million things can come up and it’s better to have a set agreement than to figure out how to kick their significant other out when they’ve been there an entire month.
When bugs show up in your home you tend to get hyper-focused on them and each one you see annoys you even more. You might even feel like they are taking over your world - your small, cozy, comfortable world - and you just want them to go away.
Unfortunately apartment living isn't immune to occasional bug problems. So what can be done to battle the bugs and let you focus on enjoying your summer instead?
