BelieveAttending a holiday production is often a tradition for families living in Chico. The Nutcracker, White Christmas, and A Christmas Story are popular favorites year after year. But this year there is another performance in town you’ll want to add to the list: Believe: Inspired by the Polar Express.

The Production

“Believe” is an original production created, produced and directed by brother-sister team Jeff Schneeweis and Sarah Blakley. It’s a true holiday family experience for all ages that will take you on a journey to the North Pole with music and dance.  It promises to ignite your senses, thrill your imagination and recall your faith.

The ultimate goal of the production is to bring the classic holiday spirit to everyone visiting or living in Chico, and to encourage taking a break from the busyness of the holidays so the magic of the season isn’t missed. It’s a time during one evening where you can forget about your to-do list and financial strains and instead get dressed up, have a night out with family and friends, and go to a show!

The Creators

“Believe” has been in the making for 7 months. It began as an idea when Sarah and Jeff were chatting at lunch one day. They’d always considered collaborating – Jeff is a singer, songwriter, musician and producer and Sarah is a choreographer, director and dance educator – and they really enjoy the holidays and The Polar Express, but the timing never felt right until now. They’ve both grown up living in Chico and have been able to make careers out of their passions.

The Purpose

The mission of “Believe” is to help spread the holiday spirit and support the arts in the community of Chico. “Believe” has a full cast of over 80 people ages 5 and up; volunteers who have helped build the set, and businesses who have offered their support through sponsorships (shameless plug: one of the sponsors is Living in Chico’s parent company The Hignell Companies!). One thing is certain about living in Chico – the community is amazingly supportive, and it has shown as the production has come together.  That’s what the heart of the production is all about – bringing together the community in the spirit of Christmas.
