To Live or Not To Live in Houses For Rent Near Campus – That is the Question!

July 19, 2016 / by Hignell Rentals Team

for rent signLet’s face it – Chico is a college town because well, we have a University here (and that's what it takes to qualify as one). If you’ve grown up in Chico or lived in Chico for awhile now, you’ll know that there is an imaginary line that separates “college town” from the rest of Chico. What does this mean for Chico houses for rent? The Chico houses for rent located “on the west side” as it’s also known, have a reputation for being overrun by college students looking for a good time. But that’s not necessarily the case, they have a lot to offer. The answer to the question to live near or away from campus, well, that depends on who you are and what you’re looking for.

Why would someone want to live in Chico houses for rent near campus?

  • If you’re a college student, you’re probably working three part-time jobs and taking 15 units while contributing your time and talents to the local chapter of your fraternity or sorority, which means you don’t have a lot of extra cash lying around. Living in a Chico rental near campus allows you to walk to class, gives you easy access to public transportation, and gives you a better chance of finding a roommate.

  • If you’re a professor or employee of Chico State, you may want to live nearby so you can walk to work. Some Chico rentals may be more affordable near campus because they tend to be smaller and older, which also means they have character. It will also save you money on parking and the time and resources it takes to get to work each day.

  • If you just like the college atmosphere, living nearby allows you to feel like you’re a part of the campus culture, whether it’s going to lunch on campus, taking a stroll along the creek or attending some of the free lectures offered.

Why would someone want to live in Chico houses for rent away from campus?

  • If you have a family, you may choose to live in a Chico rental away from campus because you are looking for a more family-friendly atmosphere. Maybe you want to be near your child’s school or near a park. Chico houses for rent away from campus may have more permanent residents or people who stay for longer periods of time. Unlike college students, where it's more common for them to come and go frequently and have a lot of different visitors at odd times.

  • If you’ve already done the college thing, you may just be ready for a change of atmosphere. The college years can be fun and memorable, but at some point you realize it’s time to get more serious, and that often means living in a more serious place. Upgrading, if you will.

  • If your life circumstances have lead you somewhere. There are a number of reasons why people choose to live in a Chico rental. Maybe they are divorced and are trying to figure out how to get established again. Maybe they are newlyweds and are trying to save to buy a home. Maybe they just like rental living because they don’t have to worry about maintenance, feel safer, and enjoy the amenities they have access to.

Whether you’re one of those crazy college students that add vitality to our town, or an established person who plans on always calling Chico home, there are Chico houses for rent both near and away from campus to provide just what you’re looking for. Check out our rental properties!
