Do you see plain walls, carpet, and rooms that don’t feel like home? Understandably rentals try to keep most of the colors in neutral to try to please future renters. But this doesn’t mean that you have to have a rental that is boring and not decorated. With the right shopping list you can take a room in your Chico rental properties and make it look like it was taken straight out of the [Better Homes and Gardens Magazine](https://www.bhg.com/decorating/).  ## What Do You Need to Purchase? **Mirror -** You need at least one, [well-placed large mirror](http://www.hgtv.com/design/decorating/furniture-and-accessories/10-tips-for-decorating-with-mirrors-pictures) to put in your living room to help make the room look larger. If you have money in your budget for two mirrors, you can put the other one in your bedroom. **Lamps -** Standing lamps or table lamps give multi-purpose use to your space. Lamps can give a softer light to a space and if you buy the lamp in a metallic color, it gives the room a classy look. **Floating Shelves -** A great way to display decorations - like a few books, a small plant and a candle - without taking up furniture space, is to [hang floating shelves](https://www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/sb0/floating-shelves-c1862566.html). This helps with preventing clutter while decorating your white walls. **Curtains -** Try to choose curtains that are a bolder color or that have a pattern so that the eye is drawn to the windows. Install the curtain rods a few inches below the ceiling and have the rods extend two inches beyond where the windows end. Doing this will give the illusion that the windows are larger and will help open up the window. **Plants -** A taller plant can help bring height to anywhere in the room. A colorful plant can give a pop of refreshing color. Live plants give a sense of life to a room that everybody can enjoy or if you have a brown thumb you can purchase a [fake plant](https://www.target.com/c/indoor-plants-artificial-flowers-home-accents-decor/-/N-4yi9q?lnk=Artificialplant). **Picture Frames -** It's time to take your favorite photos of you, your family, and your friends and put them in frames to display them properly. They can be set on end tables and hung on the walls. Bring Chico rental properties to life with your personal photos. **Pieces of Art -** Framed artwork is always a great way to draw the eye to the wall that you want to be the focus point in the room. **Wall Paper -** If you find yourself needing more color than curtains and plants can provide, then [temporary wall paper](http://www.tempaperdesigns.com/) should do the trick. It acts like a large decal for your wall that will easily peel off when you decide that it's time to move. You have your shopping list, it's now time for you to decide what color scheme you would like to have for each of your rooms and to go find those great deals. [Chico rental properties](http://www.hignellrentals.com) don’t have to be boring. They can easily reflect your personality and feel like home, just take this list and get to planning!  The best advice to keeping your place feeling like home (a home you'd like to invite people to), is to keep it clean. Doing a deep clean several times a year makes your home not only feel fresh and new, but also allows you to show off your newly decorated rental to anyone and everyone! Check out our [Seasonal Deep Cleaning Checklist](https://info.hignell.com/seasonal-deep-cleaning-checklist) you can use all year long to keep your rental as good as new.  Share this Blog [![Share on facebook](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/facebook-icon.svg) ](http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/tips-to-take-chico-rental-properties-from-drab-to-fab&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook) [![Share on twitter](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/twitter-icon.svg) ](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?original_referer=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/tips-to-take-chico-rental-properties-from-drab-to-fab&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&url=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/tips-to-take-chico-rental-properties-from-drab-to-fab&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&source=tweetbutton&text=) [![Share on instagram](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/instagram-icon.svg) ](http://www.instagram.com/share.php?u=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/tips-to-take-chico-rental-properties-from-drab-to-fab&utm_medium=social&utm_source=instagram) [![Share on linkedin](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/linkedin-icon.svg) ](http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/tips-to-take-chico-rental-properties-from-drab-to-fab&utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkedin) [![Share on whatsapp](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/whatsapp-icon.svg) ](https://web.whatsapp.com) [** Previous Post Previous Post ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/protect-your-car-in-your-apartment-parking-lot) [** View all posts ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/) [Next Post ** Next Post ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/how-to-stick-to-your-monthly-budget-living-in-a-chico-apartment) ## Recent Posts [![How to Rent an Apartment in Chico or Redding, CA-featured-image](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/hubfs/Blog%20Images/How%20to%20Rent%20an%20Apartment%20in%20Chico%20or%20Redding%2c%20CA.jpg) ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/how-to-rent-an-apartment) ### [How to Rent an Apartment in Chico or Redding, CA Click to view How to Rent an Apartment in Chico or Redding, CA](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/how-to-rent-an-apartment) [Learn More ** Click to view blog post ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/how-to-rent-an-apartment) [![What to Look for When Renting an Apartment: Your Apartment Comparison Checklist-featured-image](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/hubfs/Blog%20Images/What%20to%20Look%20for%20When%20Renting%20an%20Apartment%20Your%20Apartment%20Comparison%20Checklist.png) ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/what-to-look-for-when-renting-an-apartment-comparison-checklist) ### [What to Look for When Renting an Apartment: Your Apartment Comparison Checklist Click to view What to Look for When Renting an Apartment: Your Apartment Comparison Checklist](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/what-to-look-for-when-renting-an-apartment-comparison-checklist) Knowing what to look for when renting an apartment can make the difference between moving forward with...
