Because of the wonderful weather in both towns, it is quite easy to enjoy home grown fruits and vegetables without having to go to the farmers’ market. But what do you do if you only have a small patio? Thankfully there are fruits and vegetables that plant well in small containers and require various amounts of sunlight.  Have a patio area that gets sunshine? Then you are in luck! Keep on reading the article below from Apartment Therapy to learn about the best foods to grow when you are lacking a backyard. ## [The Best Foods to Grow in a Small Space Container Garden](https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/the-best-foods-to-grow-in-a-small-space-container-garden-218812#.krhiif:Os1O) By [Apartment Therapy](http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/) Few things are more satisfying than growing food that you can eat. If you're living in an apartment or any other place without a backyard, you may think that this is an impossible dream, but you might be surprised by the variety of edibles you can grow in containers. The following is a list of things I've had good luck growing in small(ish) containers, along with some other plants that have been recommended to me as good small space growers. Remember, when you're starting your garden, that being able to fit things in is only half the battle. Do your research, and make sure your soil, lighting conditions, and climate are right for your plants before you start. **Strawberries** Easy to grow and delicious for snacking, strawberries can be grown in [containers like this one](http://www.amazon.com/Hanging-Stacking-Vertical-Strawberry-Planter/dp/B00A3HFNNE/?tag=apartmentth0a-20) to save space. ### To know about other fruits, vegetables, and herbs you can grow, read the rest of the article click [here.](http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/the-best-foods-to-grow-in-a-small-space-container-garden-218812#.gjrhqg:Nl5R) ## When's The Best Time to Plant? Now that you have an idea on what type of plants are able to grow in smaller containers, you have to figure out what time of year is a good time to plant those fruits and vegetables. Go to the [Urban Farmer](http://www.ufseeds.com/What-To-Plant-Now.html#May) website for more information. Hopefully there will be a few that you can start planting today! But if you have to wait a few months for the peak season of planting, be patient and know that it’s what is best for the plant.
