Working on doing a deep clean in Chico and Redding rentals and wondering if you forgot something? Don’t forget to give your mattress some attention. Just think, if you're taking the time to deep clean your mattress, you might have a better night’s sleep because you aren’t being exposed to the nastiness that your mattress collects every time you snuggle into bed.
Why Deep Clean Your Mattress
When you really think about it, your mattress catches sweat, dead skin, dust mites and so much more. Typically, we spend about a third of our day sleeping, which means that is a lot of time that you spend on your mattress.
So here is what happens while you sleep: your dead skin cells fall onto the mattress which then becomes a feeding ground for the dust mites. If that isn’t enough for you to want to clean your mattress, the dust mites then produce all types of matter that can cause asthma, skin allergies, sinus problems and so much more. Cleaning your mattress can improve your overall health.
How to Clean Your Mattress
This blog is about the importance of deep cleaning your mattress. If you'd like to find tips to clean spots or stains off your mattress, click here. To get a deep clean in your mattress, you only need a small handful of common household items:
- Box of baking soda
- Vacuum
- Essential oils (optional)
Start by stripping everything off of the mattress. This includes, pillows, bedding, a foam topper, etc. Then, give your mattress a good vacuum. Take the time to get in the creases and crevices that are found in our mattresses. If you're going to use your essential oils in the process, then go ahead and put 10-20 drops in the box of baking soda. Don’t know which oil to use? Lavender, chamomile, sandalwood, and ylang ylang oils are amazing for soothing.
- Once you put the oils in the box, close the box, and give it a good shake. This will help get rid of any clumps.
- Then sprinkle the mixture all over the mattress (use the whole box).
- After the mattress is covered with the baking soda mixture, you will then need to massage the mattress. I know it might sound weird to give your mattress a good rub, but that's the best way to get that deep clean.
- Now it is time to let your mattress sit for at least an hour.
- Once that time has passed, grab your vacuum and suck up the baking soda mixture.
- And voila! Your mattress should not only smell delicious but should be super clean.
How Frequently Should You Clean Your Mattress?
Because it does take some time for your dead skin to attract the dust mites, it's recommended that you clean your mattress once a year.
You can also buy a mattress cover to try to prevent moisture from getting to your mattress. Those covers can easily be thrown in your washer to get a more regularly timed cleaning. It's important you understand that dust mites can be prevented and if you can do this, you should.
Now that you have learned how to deep clean your mattress, it's time for you to set forth and do your thang.
