Nov 25, 2020 9:00:00 AM / by Hignell Rentals Team

happy thanksgivingThis Thanksgiving is bound to look different than past Thanksgivings, and that's okay.

Some family traditions have been placed on hold because of the pandemic not wanting to risk anything in meeting together. Others have changed their traditions to accommodate all the safety measures so they can at least see some family members this holiday.

With cases on the rise, the CDC wrote about how you and your loved ones can celebrate Thanksgiving safely whether you are traveling, attending a gathering or hosting one yourself. They have also added a few ideas on safe Thanksgiving activities you can do with your household or online! Read below to have a safe Thanksgiving in your Northern California rentals this holiday season.

Celebrating Thanksgiving

Travel

Travel may increase your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. Postponing travel and staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others this year.

If you are considering traveling for Thanksgiving, here are some important questions to ask yourself and your loved ones beforehand. These questions can help you decide what is best for you and your family.

Attending a Gathering

Celebrating virtually or with the people you live with is the safest choice this Thanksgiving.

If you choose to attend a gathering, make your celebration safer. In addition to following the steps that everyone can take to make Thanksgiving safer, take these additional steps if attending a Thanksgiving gathering:

  • Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, and utensils.
  • Wear a mask and safely store your mask while eating and drinking.
  • Avoid going in and out of the areas where food is being prepared or handled, such as in the kitchen.
  • Use single-use options, like salad dressing and condiment packets, and disposable items like food containers, plates, and utensils.

Hosting a Thanksgiving Gathering

Celebrating virtually or with the people you live with is the safest choice this Thanksgiving.

If having guests to your home, be sure that people follow the steps that everyone can take to make Thanksgiving safer. These steps include:

  • Have a small outdoor meal with family and friends who live in your community.
  • Limit the number of guests.

Thanksgiving Feast

While who is at your table this year may look a little different, what doesn't have to change is the delicious food you eat. If you have fewer people attending this year, or it's just you and your housemates, think about downsizing the amount of food instead of giving it up all together.

Instead of a large turkey meant to feed your whole family and still have left overs, grab a small turkey that can feed four people. When it comes to sides, instead of having five different options, decide on the two most popular. This will lower the stress of having enough room to get everything made and then save you once you realize that more than half of the green bean casserole is left over. When it comes to desert, make or purchase just one pie. While you may want both pies, it'll mean you'll need more space to store the leftovers.

Remember, if it was a normal year you could send home leftovers with multiple family members. This year it'll be just your household or a safe gathering of a few additional people which limits the number of people you can give leftovers to.

Stay safe and enjoy the holiday Northern California!
