You might not even realize you’re doing it. Where and how a person lives says a lot about who they are and sometimes [first impressions](https://www.six-degrees.com/the-psychology-of-first-impressions/) are accurate. Take a moment to think about this concept: ## A Person’s Home Says a Lot About Who They Are When you visit someone at their home what is the first thing you usually notice? **Outside it might be:** - The neighborhood - The area of town - The landscaping - The welcome mat (or lack thereof) on the front porch - The design of the door **Inside it might be:** - The way the home smells - Clutter on the counters - If it’s clean or not - The arrangement of furniture - Decorations (or lack thereof) ## Consider the Following Two Scenarios: 1. If you’re knocking on someone’s front door and find yourself standing on a welcome mat with a lovely flower pot full of colored flowers next you, **you instantly feel warm and comfortable**. You walk inside to a clean home, with a dog fast asleep on their little dog bed, and the smell of what has to be a homemade meatloaf in the oven. This person seems to have it together.   2. However, if you’re knocking on someone’s front door and find yourself standing not on a welcome mat, next to a flower pot of dead flowers, then you walk inside and you see mail and magazines all over every surface, dog toys scattered about, and the smell of dinner burning in the oven, **you instantly feel uncomfortable and frazzled**. You would probably immediately think this person is unorganized and needs help. ## First Impressions Your first impression may or may not be correct, but it still affects your perception of the person and the situation. The same is true when it comes to searching rental properties at Hignell Rentals. Your first impression - another way to think of it is that “gut feeling” you get - can **tell you a lot about the property** and whether it would **be a good fit for you** or not. It’s always good to have a general idea of [what you are looking for](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/top-10-rental-living-tips-when-looking-for-an-apartment) in a place to call home, but first impressions can tell you a lot. So before you even sit down to prioritize what’s important to you when searching Chico rental properties, just **drive by and see what your first impression is**. Take a walk around and make a mental note of the type of people that could be your neighbors, the location in town, the amenities available, whether or not it’s near public transportation, shopping or other services you might need, and **evaluate your gut feeling**. We hope you find all of our rental properties at Hignell Rentals warm and appealing, but everyone is looking for something different which is why we offer a [variety of properties for you to check out.](https://www.hignellrentals.com/rentals/?q=&proptype=1&community=Chico&bedrooms=&pricemin=0&pricemax=0)  **Start your search today!** **** Share this Blog [![Share on facebook](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/facebook-icon.svg) ](http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/consider-first-impressions-when-searching-chico-rental-properties&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook) [![Share on twitter](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/twitter-icon.svg) ](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?original_referer=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/consider-first-impressions-when-searching-chico-rental-properties&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&url=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/consider-first-impressions-when-searching-chico-rental-properties&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&source=tweetbutton&text=) [![Share on instagram](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/instagram-icon.svg) ](http://www.instagram.com/share.php?u=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/consider-first-impressions-when-searching-chico-rental-properties&utm_medium=social&utm_source=instagram) [![Share on linkedin](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/linkedin-icon.svg) ](http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=https://blog.hignellrentals.com/consider-first-impressions-when-searching-chico-rental-properties&utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkedin) [![Share on whatsapp](https://fs.hubspotusercontent00.net/hubfs/4172253/OneTheme/social-icons/whatsapp-icon.svg) ](https://web.whatsapp.com) [** Previous Post Previous Post ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/fun-things-to-do-living-in-chico-rental-properties-before-summer-ends) [** View all posts ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/) [Next Post ** Next Post ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/quiz-how-much-do-you-know-about-living-in-chico-rental-properties) ## Recent Posts [![How to Rent an Apartment in Chico or Redding, CA-featured-image](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/hubfs/Blog%20Images/How%20to%20Rent%20an%20Apartment%20in%20Chico%20or%20Redding%2c%20CA.jpg) ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/how-to-rent-an-apartment) ### [How to Rent an Apartment in Chico or Redding, CA Click to view How to Rent an Apartment in Chico or Redding, CA](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/how-to-rent-an-apartment) [Learn More ** Click to view blog post ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/how-to-rent-an-apartment) [![What to Look for When Renting an Apartment: Your Apartment Comparison Checklist-featured-image](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/hubfs/Blog%20Images/What%20to%20Look%20for%20When%20Renting%20an%20Apartment%20Your%20Apartment%20Comparison%20Checklist.png) ](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/what-to-look-for-when-renting-an-apartment-comparison-checklist) ### [What to Look for When Renting an Apartment: Your Apartment Comparison Checklist Click to view What to Look for When Renting an Apartment: Your Apartment Comparison Checklist](https://blog.hignellrentals.com/what-to-look-for-when-renting-an-apartment-comparison-checklist) Knowing what to look for when renting an apartment can make the difference between moving forward with...
