Congratulations! You made it to the third and final part of the fall decorating blog series to help give you the tips and tricks you need to update your apartment. You learned about color palettes in part one, and using pumpkins tastefully in part two. Now you will learn about other ways to add accents to your apartment space.

What to Use for Accents (Aside from Pumpkins)

So now you’ve determined a color scheme, and you know what colors belong where in your home based on how you want it to feel. Next up? Autumn décor that’s not 100% pumpkin.

Use Nature

Sometimes the perfect touch is lying right outside your door. Sticks, changing leaves (spray with a clear sealant coat so they don’t continue to decay), berries, pine cones, acorns, reeds (also spray with clear sealant), so long as it’s dried you can use it!

Display them around the inset of a table, underneath the TV, on a mantle, in a pot or vase, or in a decorative dish. They are the perfect complement and it gives a whole new meaning to bringing the outdoors inside for that warm, autumn atmosphere in your Chico or Redding apartment.

Light It Up

Lighting is key in design. It draws the eye in, creates a warm atmosphere, highlights colors, and complements surrounding accents. You can go about it a number of ways: Change the bulbs in your lamps to a softer, incandescent yellow. Add string lights to areas of the room in need of highlighting (or place them underneath one of your show pieces to create a “glow” look). Use candles to lend ambience to the room, or for understated accents.
