February 19, 2022 / by Hignell Rentals Team

biking in a parkChico is one-of-a kind. The people are nice, there’s an awesome university, the restaurants create great food and there are great shops. But, you know what the kicker is? Bidwell Park. Yep, if you find yourself living in Chico apartments you’ll be living in the same town as one of the largest municipal parks in the nation! Um, can you say every outdoor lover's dream? We love it, too!

If you love anything that has to do with the outdoors—hiking, swimming, photography, picnics, and more, you’ll absolutely love living in Chico.

A Little History About the Park

Bidwell Park was donated by Chico founders John and Annie Bidwell. It was Annie’s wish to donate beautiful land to the people of Chico so that generations of Chicoans would have something to enjoy. Originally Annie donated 1,900 acres in 1905 and another 301 acres in 1911. Over the years, the City of Chico purchased additional acreage bringing the parkland to its current 3,670 acres.

The park spans nearly eleven miles, starting from the area of downtown Chico all the way to the foothills of Upper Park.

Fun Fact: Did you know that in 1938 the Adventures of Robin Hood, staring Errol Flynn and company, was filmed in the majestic oaks and sycamores?

Why We Love Bidwell Park

Great hiking trails

Whether you’re looking for an easy stroll or a more intense hike, Bidwell Park offers that. Could you even imagine stepping out the back door of your Chico apartment onto a hiking trail? Pure perfection!

Makes for a pretty town

With Bidwell Park spanning through all parts of Chico you can expect to see some beautiful landscapes. Trees right outside of Chico apartments will turn beautiful colors in the fall. In the spring you’ll see blossoms budding and flowers sprouting up, all from the view of your apartment window, or just a short walk or drive depending on where you choose to move into!

Awesome creeks and swimming holes

Here’s another thing that we absolutely love about our town and Bidwell Park—the neat swimming holes! If you find yourself living in Chico Apartments you’ll be close to some of the best swimming holes. Plus, you don’t have to drive hours to get to them. Whether you choose Alligator Hole, One Mile or the ever-popular Bear Hole, you won’t be disappointed. Dipping into one of these famous Chico swimming spots is a must!

Great place to make memories

Bidwell Park and Chico are places that exude history and memories so they are a great place to make even more memories with family, friends and community members. We love that all of our fellow Chicoans also love our town and Bidwell Park! You can be involved in this special feeling too if you choose to live in apartments in Chico California.
