Easy Summer Activities in Chico for Everyone

June 21, 2021 / by Hignell Rentals Team

picnic in grassDo you ever feel like summer has a lot of expectations attached to it? That if you don’t plan a big adventure by the end of June you won’t get to do anything memorable? If you're a last-minute planner or want to add some fun summer activities to spruce up your summer, then you’re in the right place.

We found a great article by The Spruce that gives you a list of easy things that don’t require a lot of planning this summer. Summer isn’t always about what vacation you are going on; it can also be about the activities you do after a day at work or a fun day trip on the weekend. Sometimes it’s not even about the destination but the adventure it takes to get there or the people you spend it with.

Read through the article below and write down all the things you think would be fun this summer. The list is pretty nonspecific, but at the bottom of this blog we have specified how you can accomplish them both in and out of the Chico area.

Happy easy planning!

24 Things to Do Before Summer Ends

Drive-In Movie Theater

Nothing says nostalgia like pulling up your car to a parking spot at the good old drive in. Many of us have seen these cute little spots in the movies but how many of us have actually attended?

Baseball Game

Baseball is often referred to as America's favorite pastime! Why not buy some cheap seats and enjoy a few beers with your friends in the bleachers?

It's a great way to spend time with friends and fellow fans, and what's not to love about a pitchside hot dog!

Infamous major league baseball rivalries like the New York Mets vs Yankees and Chicago Cubs vs White Sox are especially entertaining if you live in a big city and can access these special sporting events where they compete.

Country Fair

Find the nearest county fair, pile on the fried food, and maybe even ride a roller coaster or two. A county fair only happens once a year, and it's full of nostalgia, magic, and happy summer memories with friends and family.

Usually a place for families, it can be sweet to visit your old stomping grounds as an adult and reminisce. If you moved far away, find an adoptive town and take on their county fairs as your own. A visit to the nearest county fair can be a bittersweet farewell to summer days.

Applying it to the Chico Area and Beyond

Now that you’ve read through the blog above and picked the things you want to do this summer here's how it can be applied.

Drive-In Movie Theater

If you decided that you want to go to a drive-in movie theater you have a few options! You can take a drive down to Sacramento and go to West Windknown for its double features of movies that are currently in the theater.

Baseball Game

Take the trek down to San Francisco and see a Giants game!

County Fair

If you didn’t make it to any of the county fairs that happened last month, don’t worry! There are still some happening in California, click here to find a full list of all the county fairs in California and the dates they are happening.

Outdoor Concert

You've got two options this summer if you're itching to go to an outdoor concert. You can check if there are any of your favorite bands playing at the Toyota Amphitheater located in Wheatland in the next few months. You can also head down to the Chico Plaza on a Friday night from 7-8:30pm and listen a number of different bands, click here for the schedule.

Camping

Camping doesn’t have to be a big ordeal, you can just pick up the car and go. Check out these last-minute camp sites in Northern California.

Whether you're picnicking in the park, visiting the Thursday, Saturday, or Wednesday farmers market or parking out on Bruce Road to look up at the stars, remember that summer is a time to relax and enjoy yourself. You've earned it.
