Keep Fido Happy in Chico Apartments

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | December 9, 2021

Dogs can be a lot of work, and it seems it could be even more difficult if you are living in a smaller space. If you are looking at apartments with Hignell Rentals and have a dog that you would like to move with you, you are in luck! We have complexes that allow pets. Here are a few things you should know if you are considering living in an apartment while having a dog.

Find an Apartment

The first thing that you need to do is find an apartment that allows dogs. We have five complexes that allow a small pet:

  • Sheridan Square
  • Amanda Place
  • 1661 Forest Ave.
  • Sterling Oaks
  • Tuscan Villa (located in Oroville)

Reminder, never move into an apartment with a pet if the apartment complex doesn’t allow it. This can subject you to an eviction and other fees, which doesn't sound worth it!

Follow the Process

Here at Hignell Rentals, we have a process that needs to be followed in order for you to have a pet at the five properties listed above. We have our Pet Policy, Pet Agreement and Veterinarian Pet Reference forms that need to be filled out. To view or print out these forms click here.

Tips on Keeping Fido & Yourself Happy

Walks

Take your dog on a walk more than once a day. They can be full of energy and to help avoid any behavioral problems, taking them outside and walking them on a leash is healthy not only for them but also for you too!

Training

Obedience training can be helpful for basic training. Don’t know a business in town that holds doggy training? Check out the Canine Connection. They have different class options depending on the age and size of your pet, they also has daycare and boarding available. For more information on training click here.

Crate training can be a great way to train your dog and make them feel safe in your apartment while you are away from your home. For more information on how to crate train your dog click here.

Doggie Toys

Give your dog plenty of age appropriate toys to keep them mentally and physically stimulated. Also don’t forget that your dog needs your love and care too! Taking the time to play fetch or cuddling with them while you are reading a book are great ways to show that you love them.
