Fun Ways to Celebrate Earth Day in Your Chico or Redding Apartment Community

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | April 21, 2023

Earth Day is Saturday, April 22, 2023. There are big and small ways that you can make a difference, whether it’s getting involved and joining the movement, giving to the cause, or spreading the word. The key is to start and take action. Learn what you can do to make a difference in your apartment community.

Attend Local Events

In the spirit of Earth Day 2023 "Invest in Our Planet," join the Butte Environmental Council at The Endangered Earth Event for a day of action, advocacy and education honoring 44 years of the Endangered Species Faire. The event is Saturday, April 22, 2023. Free and open to the public.

If you're in Redding, the Shasta Environmental Alliance is sponsoring an Earth Day Festival at Caldwell Park on April 22, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m..

Host a Lights Out Event

Encourage residents at your Chico or Redding apartment community to turn out their lights and unplug appliances for one hour and head over to the community room for activities and refreshments. Get all residents involved by doing an Earth Day scavenger hunt in your area.

Community Clean Up

Gather some neighbors and friends and pick an area around your apartment community to host a clean-up and pick up trash and debris. It could simply be a stretch of road, an empty field, or nearby park.

Organize a Hike

Northern California is surrounded by outdoor activities, so why not get outside and go for a hike, run, or leisurely walk. While the fitness room at your apartment is a great amenity, some complexes don't have them and sometimes it's just good to get outside and enjoy some good 'ole fashioned sunshine!

Recycling Challenge

Challenge residents at your apartment complex to bring recyclables to the local recycling area, participate in other sustainable activities; or host a donation event for clothing and small household items that can be taken to a local nonprofit such as The Arc Store or The Salvation Army.

Ride Your Bike

Encourage residents to keep their cars parked and ride their bikes to work or school, even just for one day. Take it one step further and encourage them to pack their lunch too and coordinate a local place to meet for a sack lunch date.

Start Your Own Garden

You might think this can’t be a reality while living in a Chico or Redding apartment, but you can start your own small patio or balcony garden. It can simply be herbs or small pots used to grow berries, tomatoes or peppers. It can be very satisfying to grow the food you eat!

We’re lucky to be living in Northern California – a place that cares about the environment, sustainability, and empowering the community to care about where we live, both on a local and global level. We encourage you to get involved and celebrate Earth Day at your Chico or Redding apartment complex.
