Live by Yourself? Apartment Living Ideas to Get You Social

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | June 28, 2019

If your apartment living situation involves just one person - you - it's easy to become a recluse inside your humble abode which can lead to feeling lonely. But that’s no fun! So what can you do to combat that feeling of being isolated? Here are a few ways to keep the blues at bay.

Use the Amenities

Most apartment complexes have great amenities that can keep you busy and social - from fitness centers to pools and basketball courts. Whenever you need a little pick me up, make use of your amenities. If you live in a complex that doesn’t have amenities like these, you can always purchase a gym membership.

Attend Complex-Wide Events

Many apartment managers will plan complex-wide events for residents. These are often held at the clubhouse and can included activities such as: movie night, game night, barbecue, weekly coffee and pastries, local fundraiser, craft night, community yard sale, etc.

At Hignell Rentals, we value a sense of belonging at our complexes and want to help our residents grow and nurture healthy relationships with their neighbors. A few of our complexes have a Care Team that host monthly Caring Community Events with the sole purpose of making new friends and keeping lasting relationships. These events are free to our residents. What better way to socialize with your neighbors than doing something fun and different?

Learn About Local Events

Another great thing about living in Northern California are the amazing local events that you have access to in Chico, Redding and the surrounding areas. Whether it be an art gallery downtown or the farmers' market, these events help you get out of your apartment and stay social. Plus soaking in the local culture is always a great experience. Get a Pet

Living in an apartment with a pet is a great way to have companionship. It can also give you a sense of purpose, give you the feeling of being needed, and act as a great conversation starter with others around your apartment complex!

But pets are also a lot of hard work. At a few of our apartment complexes, we do allow one small pet. Before you make that commitment, make sure that you can financially afford a pet, and you have enough time to give it attention as well. Always check with your apartment manager first.

It's important to remember that just because you live by yourself doesn’t mean that you have to be lonely. Sometimes a quiet, uninterrupted evening of binge watching your favorite show on Netflix while enjoying a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream after a long day is a good thing!

We just want our current and potential residents to know that apartment living at Hignell Rentals in Chico, Redding and areas throughout Northern California provides different options to get you out of your apartment and get social to help combat the loneliness that can come with living by yourself.
