How to Throw A New Year’s Eve Party in Your Apartment

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | December 31, 2019

Just because you are in an apartment doesn’t mean that you can’t throw a party to celebrate the new year. But how do you plan a memorable time without being a bad neighbor which could lead to warnings and evictions from your complex? Here are a few ideas to throw a great party while still being a great neighbor.

Keep Music Down

This may sound like an obvious one but there are still people who aren’t mindful of the music level. We recommend testing how loud you can have your stereo (or whichever music device you prefer) before your party starts. Start by asking your neighbors to help you figure out an appropriate level. Go back to your apartment, start playing a song, and then go back to your neighbors and ask if they can hear your music in their apartments. Grab a friend and see if this level of music that you decided on is low enough for comfortable conversation. This will help prevent noise complaints!

Warn Neighbors

Letting your neighbors know that you are throwing a party is important to keeping the peace. Heck, you can even invite them if you want! But if you talk to them ahead of time, they will most likely be more willing to just shoot you a text or give you a heads up that your party is getting a little loud. Keeping communication open is always important to being a good neighbor.

Celebrate East Coast Time

Most quiet hours in apartments in Chico California start around 10 p.m. So one of the best ways to keep your New Year’s party fun but civil is to celebrate the New Year at 9 p.m. West Coast time which is midnight in New York City. You can watch the ball drop live on this website or if you have a station that airs at East Coast time. This is great because you can still have your countdown while keeping your partying from happening into the wee hours of the morning. Want everybody out by 11? Sounds good to us!

Plan an End Time

This may sound a little weird but telling people that you are ending the party at a specific time will help keep your party from continuing until 2 a.m. It is always a good idea to end your party at your quiet hour. If you don’t know what time that is for your complex make sure you call them to find out.

Make it Small

How many people can you comfortably fit in your apartment? Try to keep your guest list as small as possible. Having 5-10 people in your apartment is a comfortable number. Also encourage people to stay inside your apartment and not hang out on your patio. This will help keep the noise down.

Noise Makers

Now that you have decided to celebrate at 9 p.m. West Coast time, hand out the noise makers roughly two minutes before the ball drops. This is also best if you are having a family friendly party to help control the noise. Once all of the hugs and kisses are done after the ball drops collect the noise makers and make them disappear!

Limit Alcohol

Because you are the resident at the apartment complex you have to remember that you are responsible for whatever your guests do. So any damage to your unit, excessive noise etc. is your responsibility. Limit alcohol and make sure that you keep it down. Don’t be afraid to cut people off.

Just remember that you can have a get together in your apartment while still being respectful to your neighbors. Are you looking for a new apartment where you would be proud to have guests over?
