It's never too late to decorate the outside of your apartment and give it a little extra cheer this holiday season.
While living in an apartment during the holiday season can sometimes make it feel impossible to decorate because you don’t have a roof for lights or a lawn for ornamentals, there are other places outside your apartment that you can decorate!
Apartment front doors, the area around your front door, and your balcony or patio are great places to decorate. Continue reading below and find some really simple yet festive ways to bring some holiday cheer to the outside of your apartment rental.
Decorating your door is a surefire way for you to come and go from your home with a little extra holiday spirit. The year 2020 hasn’t been what anyone was hoping for, so why not at least make your door festive?
One of the easiest ways to bring your door some festive cheer is by grabbing a holiday welcome mat! Add a simple “Merry Christmas” or a red car holding a Christmas tree that says, “Time to Get Merry”.
When it comes to wreaths, there are many different options to choose from! You can go all out with lots of decorations or you can keep it simple. You can purchase a real wreath from a Christmas Tree lot and leave it as is or you can add to it. If you don’t want a real one, you can also purchase fake wreaths that are already decorated or you can purchase all the pieces and try a DIY wreath! Don’t forget to pick up a door hanger for your wreath along the way.
Purchase a ready-made wreath at stores like Target, Kirkland’s, Lowes, and Home Depot. Purchase all the items you need for a DIY wreath at stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels.
When it comes to dressing up your front door nothing is better than adding some color! You decide whether your plants are real or fake, but here are 10 Christmas plants that will help bring life to your front door.
Find a fun vertical porch sign to display in your front door space! With festive words like JOY, PEACE, MERRY, and BRIGHT you have multiple options to choose from. There are even signs that say HOME and have a wreath in place of the O!
Balconies and patios can easily get overlooked, but that doesn’t mean some amazing decorating can't happen within the small space.
Depending on the type of railing you have on your balcony or patio, you can either loop your lights through the top of your railing like this, string them down like this, or let them hang over the edge like this.
You can also string lights across the ceiling of your balcony or patio along with outlining the door, sliding door, or window that gives you access to your space!
Like your Christmas lights, garland can be used in the same way! Weave through your railing, secure it on top, outline your railing or door, or have it looping across your ceiling. Go all out and have your lights intertwine with your garland.
Read our section above about the different types of wreaths you can get and then add one or two or three to your balcony or patio railing! You can also hang it on the outside of your balcony or patio door or on the wall beside your door.
If you have extra space on your balcony or patio floor that isn’t already being used, Grab a small real or fake Christmas tree and string it with lights! You can also find your favorite small inflatable holiday character at your local hardware store and let all your neighbors see your holiday spirit.
