Get the Most Out of Your Walk Through in Chico or Redding Apartments

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | February 28, 2019

Once you have signed on the dotted line and it's time for you to move into one of the beautiful apartments in Chico or Redding California, the walk through is next up on your to-do list. This is when you and the resident manager walk through your new apartment and take note of the condition of every inch of your apartment. If your complex doesn’t require a walk through, we recommend that you call the office and schedule one. Here is a list of ways to get the most out of you walk through.

Bring a Camera

It is important to take pictures of the damages for your records. If the fan has a ding on one of the blades, take a picture of it. If there is grout missing from the bathtub, take a picture of it. Remember to bring a camera or pull out your phone. At Amanda Place Apartments in Chico California, the office manager will take pictures of the damage and post it to your account online so you can access them at your convenience.

Bring a Notepad and Pen

After taking a picture, jot down the details of why the picture was taken. Was it dirty? Give details of damage. Try to give as much information as possible that will help you remember.

Be Patient

Think about it and look at every inch of every room. You’ll reference back to this list when you move out. Hopefully you love your new apartment in Chico or Redding California and you will live there for years to come and won’t need to refer to this list any time soon, but now there is a record that any damages that are present were done before you moved in. This will take some time. If you try to rush the process you may be responsible for cuts on the countertops or stains on the carpet that were there when you moved it but there wasn’t a record of that being an issue when you moved in. Take your time.

Don’t Be Afraid to Pose a Question

If your resident manager accidentally doesn’t notice that there is water damage around the window but it catches your eye, make sure you direct their attention to it. This can also lead to a follow up regarding any possible leaks from the window that weren’t addressed with the last resident and need to be addressed immediately. What you have to remember is that the manager will have seen this apartment several different times and it is easy for them to think that something is in one condition but you may think of it differently. Don’t be afraid to bring their attention to something.

This is also a great time to ask about any cleaning tips. Glass shower doors, carpets and countertops are among the laundry list of things that you are responsible for cleaning when you move out of the apartment. Ask the resident manager what is normally used to clean the different parts of the office and if they know what shouldn’t be used to clean in the apartment.

Schedule Maintenance Order

If you find anything that is broken, damaged or could be a potential problem, put in a maintenance order with the office immediately so that you don’t forget that it needs to be done. Why put off tomorrow what you can do today?

Finally, after you are done checking the plumbing, electrical outlets, appliances, windows and more, you are able to relax knowing that you chose a new home among several apartments in Chico or Redding California that will keep you safe and happy.
