Chico Palio is the official kick-off for Artoberfest, which celebrates art and culture in Chico and the surrounding areas. Chico Palio will be held on Saturday, September 7th at Sycamore Field at One Mile in Bidwell Park. It’s a free, family-friendly event full of hands-on art activities, live performances from local musicians, and a horse sculpture race. Chico Palio is “modeled after Italy’s famous Siena Palio, one of the most prestigious and famed races in Europe. Instead of a race based on the interaction between man and beast, Chico Palio focuses on the relationship between art and friendly competition.” Businesses, organizations, neighborhoods and groups of friends create horse sculptures to “race” during the event.
