Christmas is just t-minus 2 days away!

On a normal year, every family likes to celebrate the holiday in a different way. Whether they all live nearby or fly out to visit. Whether you open gifts on Christmas Eve or on Christmas morning. Whether you go caroling together or bake Christmas cookies. Each family has their own traditions they look forward to each year!

Yet, this year all those traditions will look a little different. No matter how you're celebrating the holiday this season here are some fun ways to keep your holiday traditions as close to normal as possible -- start up new ones!

20 Fun Ways To Safely Celebrate Christmas At Home This Year

1. Have a Christmas movie marathon.

Sure, Hallmark movies are great, but maybe you prefer binge watching the classics. Get the popcorn ready and queue up your faves, because a movie marathon is a must.

2. Host a virtual holiday party.

Zoom and Google Meet have become the norm for holidays this year, so make that link and send out a calendar invite this month. Bonus points if everyone makes their favorite holiday appetizer to enjoy on the call!

3. Wear matching pajamas with your family or roommates.

The best fashion statement you can make this holiday season is some festive pajamas on Christmas morning. Better yet—match with your family or roommates so your entire pod looks great.

4. Send gifts to far away loved ones.

Gift giving is always such a fun part of the season, and you can still make someone's day by sending them something to put under their tree. If you make them promise to wait until the 25th to open it, you can even plan a video call so you can see their reaction.

5. DIY an at-home photo booth for a photoshoot.

Up your Instagram game with an at-home photoshoot that can be made even more jolly with some on point props.

6. Bake cookies for Santa—and yourself!

You have to leave a plate of cookies out for Santa as per tradition, but make sure you have enough so you can enjoy them, too.

7. Make a holiday-themed puzzle.

Puzzles are a great way to keep yourself—and the kids—occupied this holiday season. Pick one up that has a nice wintery scene to set the mood for the big day.

8. Make Christmas breakfast from scratch.

Opening all of your presents from Santa will probably make you hungry, and this Cinnamon Roll Bake is one of the best ways to fuel up for the day's festivities.

More Ways to Celebrate Safely

Take a Light Tour

Step one is to gather your family or housemates and pile into the car. Step two is to drive through your local coffee shop and grab a warm drink. Step three is put on some Christmas tunes. Step four is to drive around your town and neighborhoods looking at all the decorations people have up this year! This allows you to do something fun with your loved ones by staying safely inside your car.

Go on a Walk

Christmas Day may be chilly, so we recommend bundling up, filling a thermos with your favorite warm drink and going on a walk with your family or friends. Exercise during the holiday is few and far between so it’s best to get in whenever you can. Being outside also helps to lower the risk of spreading the virus adding to the safety of this option!

Deliver Food

Live in the same area but decided not to gather together for the holidays? You can still eat “together” on Zoom or another form of video chat. Make it even more of a holiday event by having a shared meal that everyone participated in making. Assign each person a dish and have them make enough for everyone, then place it in to-go containers and drop it off at designated locations!

Even though it’s difficult to not be together, remember that you are doing your part to decrease the risk for the people you care about.
