Best Holiday Bakes To Mail As Gifts

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | December 9, 2020

This holiday season will likely look different to you than previous ones, just like the rest of 2020. Not only will there be less people at your family and friends' holiday celebrations, there will be less food sharing and face-to-face time. While that may be the case, it doesn’t mean you can’t send Grandma’s famous gingerbread cookies to everyone who will miss your holiday celebrations this year!

While you’re baking grannie's cookies, why not add a few other delicious treats to the box and really send them a good old fashioned box of holiday goodies? We’ve found eight treats that are easy to make and safe to send through the mail without fearing they’ll be crumbles by the time they arrive.

Cookies to Mail

Cookies are some of the simpler baking treats to send in the mail as they tend to be nice and flat and soft enough that a few bumps in transit won't destroy them.

Citrus Shortbread Cookies

Who doesn’t love a delicious buttery cookie to have with their morning or afternoon tea? This recipe enhances the goodness by adding in orange zest and dried cranberries for that extra kick of a citrusy Christmas.

Magnolia Table Chocolate Chip Cookies

You can’t go wrong with the classic chocolate chip cookie! Instead of just making the Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies, which is a great option, try your hand at Joanna Gaines’ recipe! Joanna is the wife of the duo who star in HGTV's Fixer Upper. Not only is she a wonderful designer, but a pretty fantastic baker as well.

Soft Gingerbread Cookies

Don’t have Grandma’s famous recipe for gingerbread cookies? That’s okay! We’ve got you covered with this scrumptious recipe from Family Cookie Recipes. Not only will you get the ingredients and directions, but they also give you tips on how to guarantee your gingerbread cookies have a soft middle.

Cinnamon Chip Chai-Spiced Snickerdoodles

Take this twist on the classic snickerdoodle and it may just become your new favorite. Nothing is better than being able to have spices like cardamon, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg all in the same recipe. It gives you a heads up that your tongue is in for a sugary spiced good time!

Mexican Hot Chocolate Snickerdoodles

Also known as Chocolate Snickerdoodles, but this recipe gives you the option to add some cayenne pepper for that extra kick that makes it better than just a normal chocolate snickerdoodle!

Candy Bark

Cookies are a wonderful go-to when mailing baked goods as they are sure to get there without making too much of a mess. Yet, if you are wanting to add something to your box so it isn’t just cookies, any kind of candy bark will do the trick! Hard enough that it won’t become crumbly, yet no big deal if it does break.

Mint Chocolate Bark

Love peppermint bark? Try this simplified recipe that only has 4 ingredients and is bound to be a big hit!

Peanut Butter Pretzel Bark

Have you ever thought to make your bark in the microwave instead of the oven? These grandmas did! Along with a parent’s supervision, even your elementary school age kids could make this 4-ingredient recipe that is sure to be consumed quickly.

English Toffee

Whether you make this yummy toffee for your box of goodies to send to others or you keep it for yourself, you won’t be sorry! You can never go wrong with a sticky toffee and chocolate duo around the holiday season.

Mailing Tips for Baked Goods

Once you’ve baked all your delicious holiday treats to send to family and friends in the same state or across the country, it’s time to package it all together. Here are a few tips to help them get where they're going in one piece!

#1: Place your treats in little baggies to help contain the few inevitable crumbs.

#2: While the cute and very festive Christmas tins may be your first choice of how to transport your treats, it’s not recommended. The Kitchn says to “make sure [your treats] are packaged tightly enough so that the [treats] won’t knock against each other during shipping, but not so tightly that the [treats] break if the box gets bumped or compressed at some point.” Grab a cardboard box and fill the bottom with either shredded paper or packing peanuts. Then place your treat bags on top, snuggled safely in place. Top it off with more of whatever packing material you used on the bottom!

#3: Don’t forget to label your treat bags or write a Christmas card informing them of all the holiday treats they’ll be eating this season.

Now you're ready to celebrate the holiday season's delicious treats with family and friends near or far with your favorite goodies!
