Are Your Apartment Neighbors Driving You Crazy?

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | May 24, 2022

Apartment living means you're bound to have a problem with a neighbor at some point. If you feel comfortable with mild confrontation, then check out the tips below to try handling the situation yourself. Otherwise, you may need to involve the apartment manager.

Meet Them

When you or your neighbors first move in, take the initiative to introduce yourself. Consider exchanging numbers so that you can hold each other accountable. Be the first one to say, “Hey, if I get a little loud, just send me a text or let me know.” Hopefully your neighbors will then say the same. Having relationships with your neighbors helps you handle conflict with kindness.

Talk to Them

When your neighbor is watching a movie that's too loud or having parties late into the night, it's time to confront the situation.

Because you want the best apartment living experience, it's hard to ignore when neighbors aren’t being considerate. So send them a text message or knock on their door. Avoid accusatory sentences and just be nice. Maybe they don’t know that their dog is barking while they're away or that their movie is too loud. If you don’t like confronting people at all, you can always leave a note on their door. But at least you can say that you tried!

Talk to Your Manager

If your neighbor doesn’t act as though their actions are a big deal or if the problem persists, it's time to call your apartment manager. They will be able to give your neighbor an official complaint and discuss action items that will be taken if they don’t keep it down. You can let your manager know that you tried to handle the situation and they'll be more than willing to help you.

Now it’s time to take these tips, start talking to your neighbors and take your apartment living experience into your own hands.
