7 Ways to Ride the Heat Wave Living in Apartments in Chico California

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | June 17, 2021

Well, Chicoans we’re having a heat wave! Sure, we can all put up with the 100 degree heat, that’s nothing new during summers living in apartments in Chico California. Yet, when it gets to 110 degrees + like is predicted in the next week, what are you going to do about it?

Here are some suggestions to stay cool this week and all summer long:

1. Go to the Movies

Good news, the movie theatre is heavily air conditioned and since there's no business like show business, there will be summer blockbusters you can get excited for. Every Tuesday the tickets are just $6.25! You'll have enough money left over to grab some Jon & Bon's yogurt or a delicious Chico Mint ice cream cone at Shurbert's once the movie is over.

2. Make a Splash

Cannonball! Oops, you wouldn’t do that if you’re living in apartments in Chico California because it’s probably against your pool rules, but never mind. The point is, most apartment complexes have a swimming pool and you should use it. If it’s too busy because everyone else in the complex seems to be using it too, visit the Sycamore Pool at One Mile or take a hike up to the swimming holes in Upper Park. Be safe though!

3. Take H2O Wherever You Go

Grab that Kleen Kanteen, fill it with water, and don’t stop drinking it! It’s really important to stay hydrated because your body is going to be working that much harder to keep you cool. Drink up even more if you’re going to be doing some type of activity outdoors – and put sunscreen on while you’re at it. It’s even harder to keep cool when you’re sunburned.

4. Stay Inside if You Can

As fun as summer in Chico can be, is there really anything worth doing outside in 110 degree heat? A nicely air conditioned apartment sounds much better. In fact, it’s a good idea to turn on the AC right now to make sure it’s working properly. If you’re living in an apartment in Chico, a member of the maintenance staff at your complex should come around to inspect your air conditioner unit and change the filter every so often. If they haven’t, give them a call.

5. Wear Cool Clothing

Cool as in not hot, but if you want to look cool too, by all means! This is one time when you will want to wear as little as possible, within reason of course. A tank top and shorts will suffice, but we won’t judge if you’re running around in your wet swimming suit (at the pool or inside your apartment of course). We’re talking flowy dresses, cotton fabric, hats, sandals, anything that breathes. It does make a difference.

6. Get into Some Freezer Action

We don’t actually mean climb into your freezer, although I suppose that’s an option if you can fit. Instead, freeze fruit, freeze juice to make popsicles, freeze cookies and make ice cream sandwiches, freeze pizza (don’t knock it – have you ever tried it?). In hot weather the freezer is your friend. The stove is not. Avoid turning on the oven and cooking on the stove if you can. Make a PB&J, grab a popsicle, and plant yourself near the air conditioner.

7. Dim the lights

We’re not trying to set the mood here, although it could be an added bonus of trying to keep cool. Keeping your lights off as much as possible and closing your blinds and curtains to keep the sun out will help keep your apartments in Chico California at a cooler temperature, not to mention it might help with energy costs too.

It doesn’t matter if you’re living in mansions or apartments in Chico California, you’re going to need to beat the heat. We hope you stay cool!
