7 Ways to Rescue a Rental Property Bedroom

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | July 30, 2019

Your bedroom is your sanctuary and it should be treated that way. It’s not so much about what it looks like, but more about how it makes you feel. It should be your escape, your place of peace, relaxation, and rest. The best way to create this kind of atmosphere in your Chico or Redding rental property is by doing a few small actions each day. We’ve included a couple of bigger tasks too.

1.  Make Your Bed

When you make your bed you set the tone for the day. You’re telling yourself you’re ready to take on a project and complete it. Plus, it will just make you happy to look and see a nicely made bed. To help yourself out, make sure you don’t have a bunch of plushy pillows you have to take on and off each day and can just easily pull up the sheets and comforter and move on.

2.  Clean Up

We mention the process of decluttering your rental property space quite a bit because, well, it really does make a big difference! In your bedroom, decluttering means throwing dirty laundry in the laundry basket instead of on the floor, putting away your clean laundry, hanging up coats and sweaters, taking any dishes to the kitchen, and putting unread books back on the shelf. A good dusting and vacuuming wouldn’t hurt either.

3.  Disconnect

Commit to disconnecting from technology an hour before bedtime. This might require you to banish your phone from your bedside like this person did. If you use your phone as your alarm clock, just buy an inexpensive alarm clock instead. According to the Sleep Foundation, your body needs time to wind down and shift into sleep mode. When you use an electronic device like your phone or laptop before bed the type of light that the screen gives off activates the brain instead of helping it calm down. Try reading a book instead.

4.  Wall Art and Photos

You might not be able to paint your bedroom any color you want, but you are allowed to hang things on the walls of your Chico or Redding rental property. Choose wall art that is especially appealing or relaxing to you, whether it be a photograph of the ocean or a piece of modern art you admire. Also include photos of your friends, family, and pets that you like. They will give you a feeling of happiness when you enter the room.

5.  DIY Headboard

Making your own creative headboard can be a fun activity and really help your bedroom to feel like your own. Shag carpet? Window shutters? Cardboard anyone? There are endless possibilities. You can of course find some interesting ideas on Pinterest or take a look at these 12 ideas.

6.  Make it Look Larger

If your rental property space only provides you with a smallish bedroom, there are a few things you can do to make it appear larger. If you're allowed to paint the walls, use light colors. Dark colors make you feel closed in. Use window treatments that are larger than the size of the window to trick the eye into thinking the window is bigger. You could also remove any cumbersome furniture or add a mirror to reflect the space.

7.  Add Something Special

If there’s anything that makes you feel extra special or relaxed, include it in your bedroom. It could be a small water feature because you like the sound of running water, your favorite candle scent, or an extra soft pillow that helps you sleep better.

There will be no counting sheep for you when using some of the tips above to rescue the bedroom in your Chico or Redding rental property. Instead, you’ll be able to catch some z’s in a clean, cozy, and comfortable environment. Sweet dreams!
