5 Ways to Rescue a Rental Property Kitchen

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | August 21, 2021

Does your rental kitchen need rescuing? Maybe you need to maximize the small space you have to work with, need ideas to personalize it, or it just needs to be cleaned up a bit.

No matter what you need we have some rental living tips to help you function better in your kitchen!

1.  Peg Board

Hang a large peg board on a wall in your kitchen and use it to hang your mugs, pots, pans, cooking utensils, kitchen towels or pot holders.

You can purchase a peg board and hooks from your local home improvement store like Lowe’s or Home Depot. This will help free up precious cupboard space for you; however if you’re lacking wall space where you can hang the peg board then see #2.

2.  Stackable Shelves

Using stackable shelves in your cupboard can help you efficiently use the space you have to work with. Think about how frustrating it is when you need a bowl that somehow got shoved way in the back of the cupboard out of your reach, requiring you to take everything in front of it out first.

Or those canned goods in the pantry that created a domino effect and fell over when you accidentally bumped one reaching for the peanut butter behind them, not to mention your now black and blue toe a can landed on. Check out the stackable shelving at The Container Store to solve problems like these.

3.  Cork Board

If you have kitchen counters then odds are you also have the clutter that ends up on them. To help cut down on the junk mail, bills, magazines, coupons and reminder notes that find their home on the counter, try attaching cork board on the inside of a cabinet that you use often and hanging some of your clutter there.

For example, you could place your cork board inside the food cupboard and pin coupons there. You could also place cork inside the cupboard where you keep your coffee mugs and pin important reminders there because you never start your day without your cup of coffee.

4.  Shelf & Drawer Lining

Sometimes rental kitchens are worn and just plain ugly. Lining your shelves and drawers with fresh, new liner can make the kitchen feel more up to date and look cleaner. There are some fun patterns available and if you dread the measuring and cutting, you can purchase easy-cut shelf and drawer liner.

5.  Personalize

The best way to rescue your kitchen it to personalize it with items you like. Try covering the floor with a fun patterned rug, hanging wall art, purchasing a brightly colored small appliance, and finding your favorite scented candle to burn when you’re home. If you’re stuck with - yet grateful for - the old, ugly refrigerator your management company provided, you can temporarily disguise it with appliance art.

With just a few quick, easy ideas you can give your Chico or Redding rental property kitchen new life. For more rental living tips subscribe to our blog or visit our Rental Resources page!
