Take the time to look around your apartment and see what items you can place in a box to save for next year when it’s time to transition your place back to summer. For now, placing them in the back of your closet will save you from feeling like your home is stuck in last season (a giant no-no).
You’ll find below the best ways to transition your home without spending all the money you planned to set aside for Christmas gifts!
Time to box up all your summer clothes in your closet that give you too much of a chill during fall, clothes like:
When they are all boxed away, you’ll have room for all of your fall essentials like:
Fall is often known as “that beautiful moment between sweat and hypothermia,” that’s why it’s important to have clothes in your closet that you can easily layer with. Chico mornings can have you wishing you were wearing gloves, a sweater, and your fuzziest socks. Yet, come afternoon, the weather warms up and you’ll wish you had just frozen during the morning, so you weren’t currently sweating while going to lunch.
Fall Tip: Some of the easiest pieces to layer with are cardigans and scarves. They allow you to bundle up in the morning, but also come off with ease when it gets warmer.
Throw blankets are some of the easiest ways to make your home feel like fall. Pull out your favorite cozy ones that are in warm (whether they are light or dark) colors and place them on your sofa. They add a little color and are perfect for cuddling up with a fun book and cup of tea during a cool Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Sofa Décor Tip: Find one or two fun fall throw pillows to pull out each year, it’s amazing how much it’ll add to the feel of fall harvest season around your home.
I believe this was the season that Bath & Body Works was made for. Fall candles are THE way to make your home smell like a crisp fall morning, a warm campfire, or your favorite sweater. Did you know there is such a thing as a “warm” look? Candles not only make your home smell good, they also add to the fall look of “warm” in both the smell and the light of the actual candle.
Bath & Body Works comes out with new fall scented candles every year, and this year’s are just as good as ever. Check out their new fall line and find your new home scent (or like us, pick a few and cycle through them)!
When in doubt find some pine cones and place them in a bowl or clear jar, not only will they give you a warm look and feel, but the smell of pine is extremely relaxing. It gives you the sense of being outside without having to open a window (even though that is a perk with this amazing fall weather). Placing some nuts at the bottom of a clear vase with some wheat stocks or tree branches on top will also bring in the feeling of fall without draining your bank account!
When you find yourself at the pumpkin patch picking out the biggest pumpkin you can lift, make sure to pick up a few of those tiny pumpkins that they normally have near checkout. They make amazing little accent pieces to place around your home.
Nothing says, “it’s fall” like watching your favorite fall harvest movies. Whether you are into the classic ones like October Sky and Good Will Hunting or some good ole cheesy Hallmark Channel movies, now's the time to spend an evening watching one.
In fact, the best way to really kick off the fall season is to:
1) Put on your favorite fall fuzzy socks
2) Light your newly purchased fall scented candle
3) Make a cup of apple cider (placing it next to the bowl of pine cones)
4) Get on your sofa and snuggle under your cozy blanket
5) Put on your favorite fall movie
Once you’ve done all the above you can (with 100% certainty) say that you’ve transitioned into fall and are ready for all it has to offer!
Safety Tip: Remember to stay safe this fall season and to close your windows when you leave the house if you don't have screens on them.
