5 Tips For Keeping Your Stuff Safe at Your Chico Apartment

Written by Hignell Rentals Team | April 30, 2020

When you're stuck inside for over a month and only leave your apartment out of necessity (i.e. groceries or toilet paper have run out), you can become lax in remembering to keep your stuff safe.

Yet, when you are finally allowed to leave your apartment again we want to make sure that it is truly a liberating feeling. There should be no second thoughts on whether things are locked up or worry that one of your valuables may be gone when you get back. We want you to be able to go wherever you need and know that when you get back home, all your things will be exactly where you left them.

In order to help you feel secure when leaving your things in your apartment, we have created a list of five tips you can use to increase your apartment’s safety.

1. Creative Hiding Places

Don’t leave your valuables out in the open where everyone can see them, even if it’s just your roommates. Find places that you can hide your things so that they can’t easily be found by others. This includes taking valuables inside with you at night and not leaving your purse easily visible in your car. You could consider installing a safe in your closet or getting super creative and hollowing a book out to hide among the rest on the shelf.

2. Safe Deposit Box

Some things are just too valuable to keep lying around in your apartment, even if they are in your safe. Think about going to your bank and opening a safe deposit box so that you can know for certain that your valuables are secure. This way you don't have to constantly worry about it being stolen.

3. Renter’s Insurance

Renter’s insurance is a great way to add more security to your apartment because it protects your belongings in case of an emergency. The emergency can be caused by fire, theft, hail, lightening and more depending on the company you go with. Most renter’s insurance costs between $15-$30 a month. 4. Install a Security System

You don’t have to install a giant camera with lots of wires and hook ups that cost you tons of money, although feel free to do so if you have the extra cash. You can start with a simple camera that attaches to your ceiling to give you peace of mind and usable security. There are plenty of other ways to enhance surveillance and security protection, such as hidden sensors, concealed cameras etc., so do your research to find out what feels most comfortable and affordable.

5. Report Anything Suspicious

Always, always, always report any suspicious behavior to your manager. Even if you aren’t 100% sure and you're just worried, tell them. It's better to be safe in the long run rather than wish you had said something earlier.

At Hignell Rentals we want you to feel as safe as possible while living in one of our apartments. Remember to always lock your doors when leaving and don’t put a spare key under your mat. Consider more creative ways to conceal your key that won't give burglars easy access to your Chico apartment. If you have any questions regarding how we deal with the safety of your apartment, feel free to contact your apartment manager.
